The 6th of June 1944, also known as D-DAY, the Allied Forces began operation Overlord: codename for the Battle of Normandy. 7 thousand boats covered the Channel separating England and Normandy.

Over 150 00 soldiers landed by sea and sky.

No less than 14 000 Canadians landed on the Juno Sector. They attacked the German defences – the Atlantic Wall – made of canons, mines, barbwire and bunkers.

Led by Major General R.F.L Kieffer, troops must establish a bridgehead on the 5 miles from Courseulles-sur-Mer to Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer.

Soldiers then made their way towards the Carpiquet airport.
Juno is the smallest of the 5 sectors but also the second deadliest. 340 Canadians died on D-DAY.
