Head for the fish market in the fishing port of Courseulles-sur-Mer, to buy directly from the fishermen.

No middleman here!

An authentic atmosphere reigns in the fishing port, where locals and tourists alike enjoy meeting up.

This market has all the flavour of a vacation!

Fresh iodine, glistening fish, the cries of seagulls, the laughter of sailors and fishermen… all the elements are there to delight the senses.

Often, behind the stalls, it’s the fishermen’s wives who sell the day’s catch.

As you prepare your fish, they’ll advise you on the best way to cook it, or how to add a little sauce.

Les hommes sont sur les chalutiers.

You may be lucky enough to see crates of fresh fish, shellfish and scallops being unloaded.

The day’s catch is placed directly on the stalls, ready for sale.

Open every morning, all year round, it is particularly well stocked with local fish, shellfish and crustaceans.

Fill up on iodized flavours!

The stalls are also well stocked with shellfish (pink and gray shrimp, spiders, crab, lobster, whelks…) and mussels and oysters from Normandy, with their iodized perfume and light nutty taste.

Sole, plaice, pollack, sea bream, Saint-Pierre, turbot, mackerel …

Here you can shop directly with the fishermen for fresh, freshly landed fish!

The star of the fish market is undoubtedly the scallop! From October to May, they are a daily feature on the market stalls.

Did you know?

More than 7 out of 10 scallops fished in France are from Normandy, and have the Label Rouge quality label.

The fishermen will give you some tips on how to enjoy it: snacked with a few spices or pan-fried with a little Normandy crème fraîche.

Over 30,000 tonnes are landed each year in our ports.

For sustainable and responsible fishing, this is highly regulated.

Fishing is only open from October to May, to give the shells time to grow and protect resources.
